Level Access Showers

Being able to get around the bathroom is one of the keys to an independent lifestyle and manufacturers and specialist installation companies such as A&A Builders are responding to this with a variety of products and services to help.

Shower trays set flush into the bathroom floor - having no height difference between the tray edge and the floor - provides a shower facility that can be accessed with ease whether on foot or in a wheeled chair. There are also trays available that fill the space previously occupied by a bath.

Our range includes integral drains and elegantly designed screens and doors, which can be fitted directly to the floor, to make an enclosure that suits the space and the user's needs.

Our level access trays incorporate a special grip strip along the edge, to seal the tray to the floor in a completely watertight way. It provides a shower facility that can be accessed on foot or in a wheeled chair.

As well as regular doors and curtains, we can also supply and fit half-height or barn style doors, which allow someone to help with washing, if that is a necessity.

A slide-in shower adapts the easy access concept, enabling the bather to seat themselves before getting into the shower, lifting their legs in once they are sitting securely. The enclosure fits directly into the space left by a bath, making it quick and economical to install.

Accessible Homes

What makes a home handicap and wheelchair accessible?

Put simply, the ability to enter and move around without obstacles such as steps and narrow doors. Bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen are wheelchair accessible. Everyone's needs are different, so plan to suit your individual requirements and physical limitations.

Home Modifications

The demand for accessible housing will increase in future years as the elderly become a larger share of our population. Independent living and the ability to take care of ourselves allows us to remain active and depend less on others.

Making your home accessible with simple home modifications, such as swing away hinges, can improve your lifestyle and the ability to live at home.

Move or improve?

Most of us would choose to live and retire in our own home rather than move to a nursing home or assisted living centre.

Your home can be adapted and modified to accommodate your individual needs, physical capabilities and conditions. Your house can become more accessible with a few minor home modifications.

Disabled Facilities Grants

Local council grants can help towards the cost of adapting your home to enable you to continue to live there. A grant is paid when it is considered that changes are necessary to meet your needs, and that the work is reasonable and practical.

A grant can be used for adaptations to give you better freedom of movement into and around your home and/or to provide essential facilities within it.
